Mrs Olubukola Oyenike Salami is the Director of ‘Office of the Public Defender’ (OPD), the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Alausa. She has extensive work experience in matters involving children, women and the vulnerable generally; such experience involving advocacy and Litigation for the rights of the various classes of this group of people.
Mrs. Salami is a strategic advisor, fearless advocate and has featured as speaker at numerous seminars on various topics relating to alternative dispute resolution, gender issues, domestic violence, sexual abuse and Child Abuse; at which different fora she delivered well received papers that were applauded.
Mrs Olubukola Salami holds a Bachelor of science Degree in Political Science, University of Lagos( 1986), Bachelor of Laws degree, Lagos State University (1990) and a Master’s degree in Law, University of Ibadan (2008). She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and also a member of the International Bar Association( IBA). Mrs Salami is a registered member of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), United Kingdom. She is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC)
Since joining the Lagos State Public Service and working as counsel in the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Salami has served in the following Departments/Directorates; office of Administrator General and Public Trustee, Citizens Mediation Centre (CMC) and the Office of Public Defender (OPD), where she served from 2009 till the date of her appointment as the Director of OPD in 2016.
In the various departments where Mrs. Salami has served, to fully horn her skills and impact her efficiency as counsel, she has been privileged to attend many trainings, local and foreign. Some of the local trainings include and not limited to courses on Provision of Legal Aid for Children in Conflict with the law in Lagos State, which project-course was organized in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and a Certificated course on Domestic violence, organized by the National Women Development Center, Abuja.

Since her appointment as Director, OPD, Mrs. Salami’s most recent effort, with the able support of Mr Adeniji Kazeem, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State brought Faculty Members from National Institute of Advocacy Training Colorado, United States of America, to Nigeria, to organize training on Advocacy and Domestic Violence which held for the first time in Sub-Saharan Africa in November 2016.
As an ongoing Project of OPD, Mrs. Salami is also overseeing the sustainable Programme on children in conflict with the Law, a sponsored project of UNICEF.
By virtue of her occupying the office of the Director OPD, Mrs Salami is also a member of the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Lagos State.
